Have you experienced abused/neglect as a child? Are you experiencing rigid and repetitive thoughts that are perpetuating a negative view of yourself and the world? Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) is a fairly new term that describes an often too common experience of childhood for many children where there are multiple experiences of Abuse and/or neglect. Such experiences often include a set of beliefs about self and world, physical, and emotional symptoms such as Depression, Anxiety, chronic and acute pain, a sense of being disconnected from people and higher power/God/Universe/Nature, a sense of being bad, unsafe, undeserving, unimportant, or unworthy.
As young children we develop a sense of self through perceived information we receive from our environment. When we are mistreated, especially by people who are meant to care for us, we essentially internalize these experiences and draw meaning from them in a way that is negatively biased toward ourselves.
For example:
Instead of: My dad hits me because he is Traumatized from his own childhood, and tries to numb his pain by drinking and using drugs, which fills him with rage and shame which then comes our whenever he experiences something as out of his control (such as me as a 5 year old spilling water on the floor)
I believe: My dad hits me because I am bad, unworthy, cant do anything right, deserving of violence…
Working with Childhood Abuse/Neglect is the same as working on Trauma. We will use an integrative approach of mind/body to create change in your underlying belief system – not only on a Conscious level but also on a Subconscious level. You won’t just know the difference, you will FEEL the difference.
We will:
- Explore the circumstances of your childhood and your parents and grandparents childhoods. Studies show that we can be affected by Trauma up to three generations back (or more).\
- Recover your ingrained resources (your power, resilience and JOY) – they are already inside you!
- Gently and carefully uncover the trauma experience/s (some are harder to find than others)
- Spend a lot of time releasing all the aspects of the trauma/s by resourcing and empowering the child part of you that experienced the trauma. We don’t need to work on every trauma. The mind has a generalizing mechanism!
- Continue to build resources and integrate the new perception of the experience (often experienced as a more mature, and larger perspective)
- Rebuild a sense of safety and wholeness it will be my honour to help you move through your negative childhood experiences toward uncovering your Strength, Joy, and Love of Self.
